I love to fish and I love to laugh, so this video was perfect!
For me, there is no greater privilege than to serve as a pastor of a local church. I am amazed, humbled, and thankful that despite our flaws and inefficiencies, God has seen fit to use the local church as such an important instrument for his work. I know I speak for our Grace Bible family when I say that God has placed in us, a desire to be a shining faithful expression of God’s glory. A desire to be faithful, healthy, and fruitful. To be salt and light. To MAKE DISCIPLES of Jesus Christ!!

Also, another great book I have been reading re: the ministry of the local church, Center Church is only 2.99 on Kindle. Here’s a link to that one: Center Church, by: Tim Keller
Y’all please pray for our time as elders later this month. Pray that God by His Spirit through His Word, would direct our conversations and time. Pray that we would bear in mind the charge of Acts 20:28 “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.”
Last night our 7-12th grade student ministry began a series on the freedom of self-forgetfulness. Here’s a great book on the subject if your interested: http://www.amazon.com/Freedom-Self-Forgetfulness-Timothy-Keller-ebook/dp/B007WU2S5Q
I had a great lunch with Rhome van Dyck yesterday. Always enjoy time with him. As a gifted Bible expositor, Rhome has long been a favorite guest preacher and teacher Grace Bible. While Rhome maintains a full teaching schedule, the bulk of his time is spent writing and producing Bible Studies for Sacra Script. Their stuff is top notch. They’re goal is to get the meaning of the Bible to the reader. They take the necessary time and do detailed study of the original authorship, audience, setting etc, to make ORIGINAL MEANING available to people. If your looking for a personal or small group Bible study, I highly recommend their material. You can find their products here.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21, ESV)
Relationships travel best over strong bridges of trust. We can’t overemphasize the necessity of TRUST in a marriage. This questionnaire by Paul Tripp is a great tool for trust building for couples.
With Valentine’s Day upon us, I thought I would share my favorite book on Marriage, The Meaning of Marriage, By: Tim and Kathy Keller. Husbands and wives, this would be a GREAT gift for Valentine’s Day. But don’t stop at just giving the book. Commit to taking the time to go through it and discuss it with your spouse. It will be time well spent.
The book is not a self-help book full of religious psycho-babble. It is clear, honest, helpful, BIBLICAL teaching on the subject of marriage.
Here’s an excerpt:
Marriage is a major vehicle for the gospel’s remaking of your heart from the inside out and your life from the ground up…The reason marriage is so painful and yet wonderful is because it is a reflection of the gospel, which is painful and wonderful at once. The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves that we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope. This is the only kind of relationship that will really transform us. Love without truth is sentimentality; it supports and affirms us but keeps us in denial about our flaws. Truth without love is harshness, it gives us information but in such a way that we cannot really hear it. God’s saving love in Christ, however, is marked by both radical truthfulness about who we are and yet also radical, unconditional commitment to us. The merciful commitment strengthens us to see the truth about ourselves and repent. The conviction and repentance moves us to cling to and rest in God’s mercy and grace…The hard times of marriage drive us to experience more of this transforming love of God. But a good marriage will also be a place where we experience more of this kind of transforming love at a human level. The gospel can fill our hearts with God’s love so that you can handle it when your spouse fails to love you as he or she should. That frees us to see our spouse’s sins and flaws to the bottom–and speak of them–and yet still love and accept our spouse fully. And when, by the power of the gospel, our spouse experiences that same kind of truthful yet committed love, it enables our spouses to show us that same kind of transforming love when the time comes for it…Through the gospel, we get both the power and the pattern for the journey of marriage. Loved this video and I love being a dad. It asks a great question at the end of the video:
How much time do you have?
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
You may have this verse on your favorite coffee cup. We take it to mean something like, “Today, everything is going to go my way!” But is that really what it means in context? In this video, pastor and author, John Piper speaks to the true meaning of this beautiful verse and how we can rightly apply to our life today.
